So there’s been a distinct lack of output of late on my part which we can put down to a few basic things:
I don’t want to burn out on Elite: Dangerous. It’s still not a finished game and I know I’m going to have to redo everything once the character wipe comes. Couple that with the fact I’ve lost everything more than once playing around and I’m getting slightly bored with the grind. This is something I’ve been doing since Alpha 1: play heavily until I’ve explored everything, wait for the next update.
One thing I have been trying to do is a walkthrough of the first hour or so of gameplay, followed by an accelerated walkthrough to the Hauler and then possibly the Cobra. Internet issues on my side mean I keep dropping from the server about 45 minutes into a session, meaning I have to start again, which isn’t helping the burnout. Hopefully this week I’ll pick up that project again.
Work has been getting in the way quite a bit of late. This isn’t a huge issue since I love my job almost as much as I love playing Elite: Dangerous (sad, I know). Then there’s the whole family thing that many of us Commanders have1 eating up our free time. There’s also a few other games I’ve been messing about with before Elite gets finished and sucks all my spare time.
Once the next update comes out I’ll be logging on with a vengeance again.
1 I’m not sure what it’s like now, but certainly in the early Alpha the average age of players seemed to be somewhere north of 35 – which makes sense given most of us remembered the original.
