It’s kind of weird seeing all the noise going on around [Elite: Dangerous] and the official release because, for me, it means very little. Having been a player since the Alpha there’s very little new that will surprise so the 1.0 release is merely a natural progression from the Gamma release – a bit of spit and polish if you will. Of course, it’s a huge deal for those who didn’t buy into the early stages of the game and finally get to play. It’s also a huge deal for Frontier Developments as they get to put a line in the sand and say ”This is the cool thing we created”.
And it is cool. I’ve been waiting for this game for nearly 3 decades and it is, IMHO, bloody brilliant. What’s really exciting is that this isn’t the end of it. Frontier continue working on the game and will provide more features as we go along. The 1.0 release really just marks the end of the beginning, there’s still a long way to go.
It’s unfortunate that, what with work and being away from home, I wont get a huge amount of time to play until well into the new year, but I’m hugely enjoying the time I am getting in.
